Erie -- A City on the Move

Erie History

A former coal town, Erie was first settled by a Methodist minister from Erie, Pennsylvania.  When coal was discovered and the railroad connected Erie to Denver and Cheyenne, Erie quickly became the third largest town in Weld County.  After the mining boom, agriculture took root.

One of the highlights of Erie is its Historic Downtown Business District, the home of eclectic businesses and restaurants.  Downtown also plays host to some of the town's most colorful annual events such as the Erie Town Fair, the High School Homecoming Parade, the Eerie Erie 10k Halloween race, Biscuit Day and Oktoberfest.  Today Erie falls in both Boulder and Weld Counties.           Go to  for more information.
